Thermal curtains - VocalBoothToGo

Our thermal curtains do far more than keep the heat in. Thanks to their heavy fabric of 1300 to 2850 g/m², they reduce noise from the street and the neighbours (up to 25 dB), improve the acoustics of the room, keep out the cold (thermal insulation up to 60%, up to 85% for the heaviest model) and block out light up to 100%. Four functions in one curtain, made to measure in our workshop.

Who are our thermal curtains for?

  • Older flats with windows that let in the cold and draughts.
  • Street-facing bedrooms: less noise at night and no streetlight glare in the morning.
  • Families with young children: a dark, quiet room at the right temperature for naps.
  • Sun-facing rooms: in summer, a closed curtain limits overheating.
  • Front doors and French doors that let in the cold.

How are our curtains different from a standard thermal curtain?

A standard thermal curtain is usually a lined or interlined fabric. It keeps in a little heat, but it is too light to stop noise. Our heavy thermal curtains contain an acoustic filling that makes them considerably heavier – and it is precisely the weight that makes the difference, for the cold as well as for noise.

Which model should I choose?

  • deNoise 1300 – the entry-level model for a bedroom or living room window: 10 to 15 dB less noise, 30 to 40% thermal insulation, 95% blackout.
  • deNoise 2600 – double-layer thermal curtain for a noisy street or a window that lets in the cold: 15 to 25 dB, 50 to 60% thermal insulation, 100% blackout.
  • deNoise PRO 1550 – single layer, with a blackout fabric sewn onto the front: 13 to 17 dB, 35 to 45% thermal insulation, 100% blackout.
  • deNoise PRO 2850 – double layer with a blackout fabric sewn onto the front, our heaviest curtain: from 23 dB, 65 to 85% thermal insulation, 100% blackout.
  • Fire-retardant fabric for deNoise PRO models: on request (offices, meeting rooms, premises open to the public) – please contact us before ordering.
  • SonicVoid 1300 and SonicVoid 2600 – a thick acoustic blanket rather than a decorative curtain, with 12 mm eyelets and curtain pole rings. It also keeps out the cold (SonicVoid 1300: 30 to 40% thermal insulation, 95% blackout). Our customers often hang several one behind the other for extra soundproofing.

How to hang a thermal curtain for maximum insulation

  • Wider than the window: allow 15 to 20 cm on each side so that cold air cannot get in round the edges.
  • Down to the floor, or at least well below the windowsill.
  • Close to the wall: the less space between the curtain and the window, the better the insulation.
  • Fixing: deNoise curtains come with 40 mm eyelets (for a standard curtain pole) or with 8.5 cm heading tape (for a curtain track). As our curtains are heavy, choose a sturdy pole or track.
  • To join two curtains with no gap between them, we offer snap fastener straps.

In winter and in summer

In winter, close the curtains as soon as it gets dark: the heat stays in the room and you use less heating. In summer, close them on the sunny side during the day. On our two-tone black and white curtains, turn the white side towards the window: white reflects sunlight better, so the room heats up less.

Frequently asked questions

Do thermal curtains really work?

Yes, as long as they are thick enough and properly hung. A light curtain has only a limited effect. Our curtains weigh 1300 to 2850 g/m² and cover the whole window, which significantly reduces heat loss through the glazing.

Does a thermal curtain also keep out the heat?

Yes. Closed during the hottest hours, it blocks the sun's radiation. On two-tone models, turn the white side towards the window.

Can I hang a thermal curtain over a front door?

Yes. You simply need to fix a curtain pole or track above the door that is strong enough for a heavy curtain, especially for a double-layer model.

What is the difference between a thermal curtain and a blackout curtain?

A blackout curtain blocks light; a thermal curtain keeps in heat. Our curtains do both and reduce noise as well. See also our blackout curtains and our acoustic curtains.

How long will it take to receive my curtain?

Making your made-to-measure curtain takes 1 to 2 working days after the order is confirmed. Delivery time then depends on the carrier and your country: see shipping costs and delivery times.
